It’s rare that a coffee jumps out on a cupping table with such a unique flavor profile, especially while splitting hairs at a national coffee competition like Ecuador’s Taza Dorada. Olinka’s coffee was a punch in the face of flavor, and incredibly memorable. Even though her coffee placed 4th in this competition, Caravela importers consistently scored it 2nd in all blind cuppings. After they decided to bid on this coffee, we were lucky to find out that the coffee belonged to Olinka Milena Velez Rodriguez.

Passion for coffee is not only what moves Olinka, but she lives for helping others and empowering women. Olinka is known her devotion to community, especially helping widows and divorced women from the region turn around their lives. She believes that is what makes her and her farm unique. Olinka gives women coffee seeds and she offers lectures on how to produce great coffee while being sustainable and profitable. Olinka goal is to demonstrate that women are capable of leading not just their families, but also their farm to a better future.

Olinka is actively trying to make the coffee in Sozoranga better, not just her own coffee, but the entire region. She would like to see coffees from Sozoranga become recognized for its unique flavor profile. Olinka’s farm is located very close to a nature reserve park, so it is full of nature, flowers, forest, and wild animals. Her goal is to make visits to her farm special, where visitors can feel the peace, love, and harmony Olinka’s impact is ultimately felt.
