It is competition season again! Rather, it has been since the end of the WBC (World Barista Competition) in Copenhagen last year. Also, just to be sure everyone that is interested has time to make plans, this years WBC will be held in conjunction with the 2009 SCAA’s annual conference in Atlanta, GA. Seattle 2005 was the last time the WBC was in the United States and I’m not sure its ever been this close to the St. Louis area. I, for one, am not going to miss the chance to meet some barista folk from around the globe.
So, on to the main topic, the cats at Kaldi’s are once again graciously hosting the MWRBC at the Soulard Preservation Hall from Jan. 30th to Feb. 1st. Last years competition was a blast, I can only imagine what this years will be like. There should be considerably more competitors from the St. Louis area. I’ve been busy training four baristas from Picasso’s Coffee House in St. Charles, they will be serving up our Bona Fide Blend. This group has been training hard and their shots prove it. Every week they have been getting exponentially better and we are extremely proud to have them representing us. I could tell you more about it, but see, thats top secret. Signature drinks are coming along quite nicely though. Can’t wait to see where the cards fall!
So come out and show your support for the burgeoning coffee scene in St. Louis! It will be a great time to rub elbows with some of the best in the business. Plus, its free to attend! “Why not go?” should be the question.
Awesome.
Alex
